Fragments
from the book: Astruc J. Conjectures
sur les memoires originaux dont il paroit que Moyse s'est servi pour composer
le livre de la Genese (Conjectures on the Original Documents Which Moses
Apparently Used in Compiling the Book of Genesis, 1753). In analyzing the book
of Genesis, the author cites a French text mentioning a hip injury, damage to
the ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF), and the consequences of an accident. An Russian translation is available at:

As a
professor of medicine, Jean Astruc was the first to perform a textual analysis
of the book of Genesis, publishing anonymously his work, «Conjectures on the
Original Documents Which Moses Apparently Used in Compiling the Book of Genesis»
(1753Anonyme). To demonstrate his originality and pioneering spirit, below the
title of his work, the doctor used a quote from Titus Lucretius Carus: «Aria
Pieridum peragro loca, nullius antè Trita solo» (Across the trackless fields of
the Pierides I walk, where no one has ever set foot before) from his poem «On
the Nature of Things» (De rerum natura) (1976CaroLT). The avant-title also
reads: «Conjectures sur de la Genese», which could be appropriately translated
as «Reflections on the Book of Genesis» (1753Anonyme). This echoes the title of
our work, which builds on our colleague's research: «The Ninth Month, the
Eleventh Day: A Discussion on Chapter XXXII of the Book of Genesis» [Девятый месяц, одиннадцатый день: Рассуждение о
XXXII главе
книги Бытие] (2024АрхиповСВ).
