[i] Annotaction

Fragments from the book Gadow H. Zur vergleichenden Anatomie: der Muskulatur des Beckens und der hinteren Gliedmasse der Ratiten (Comparative anatomy: pelvic and hind limb muscles of ratites, 1880). The author observed ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) in ratites: rhea, cassowary, ostrich. Synonyms for this structure are used: ligamentum teres and lig. rotundum foraminis acetabuli, and its strength is noted. Translation into Russian is available at the link: 1880GadowHF.

Quote, pp. 3-4

Femur (Oberschenkel).

Quote, p. 6

5. Lig. rotundum foraminis acetabuli. (Lat.)

Quote, pp. 3-4

Femur (thigh). The very strong femur, with its almost round head, lies in the glenoid cavity, where it is attached by a strong ligamentum teres. The neck is short. The greater trochanter, is very large and directed anteriorly; in the middle of its outer surface, where the tendons of the proximal pelvic muscles insert, there is a rough spot. Its posteriorly directed part, together with the adjacent part of the neck, lies against the antitrochanter.

Ligamentum capitis femoris. The Committee felt fully justified in giving up the use of the term "Ligamentum teres femoris", as it is always a flattened band. The pelvic sinuses are called cups (cotylae) by the Greeks, and in these sinuses, we have an inkwell (acetabula). The region around which the movements take place is called the coxendices (hip joint), by the Greeks the sciatic (ischia), from which the term ischiadici (related to the hip) comes for those suffering from hip issues. And the sinew/nerve (neruus) which connects the hip (coxendix) to the ...

1673BartholinT

Fragments from the book Bartholin T. Anatome (1673). The author talks about the topography, attachment, role, physical and geometric properties of ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF). The epithet «cartilaginosus» is mentioned, first used by Galen of Pergamon ( 2020ArkhipovSV_ProlyginaIV , ). The first quotation discusses Latin and Greek synonyms for the term «ligament» (see also Basic Scientific Synonyms ). Quote p. 69 7. [Lat] Cap. XXI. DE LIGAMENTIS IN GENERE. Ligamentum, vel vinculum, Græcis [syndesmos] dicitur. Antiqui ut Hippocrates, Ariſtoteles, & alicubi etiam Galenus, vocarunt nervum, item nervum colligatum, quia figura & colore nervum mentitur & alioquin late ligamenti vox tribui potest cuivis parti, quæ plures colligat. Item ligamentum Galeno dicitur principium musculi, cujus pars in tendinem abire putatur. Hæ omnes impropriæ sunt acceptiones. Proprie dictum ligamentum jam explicabitur. Quote p. 750. [Lat] Cap. XXI.
