The article mentions the possibility of damage to the ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) due to sudden twisting of the hip joint. According to the author, the appearance of pain in the hip (usually with a click or pop) strongly suggests a rupture. The diagnostic rotation test, in which the pelvis rotates around the supporting leg of a vertically standing subject, is also based on provoking impingement of the LCF or a scar in its place. «The ligament is tensioned in flexion, adduction and outer rotation of the hip joint. There is a particularly high incidence of ruptures of this ligament in sports where strong rotational movements of the hips are needed.»

The study authors found that there is a higher frequency of ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) tears among dancers (55%) compared to athletes (22%). Moreover, the severity of LCF tears was higher in dancers. The higher frequency of non-traumatic LCF tears in professional ballet artists suggests that the LCF may be abnormally loaded in ballet.
