Fragments from the book Gadow H. Zur vergleichenden Anatomie: der Muskulatur des Beckens und der hinteren Gliedmasse der Ratiten (Comparative anatomy: pelvic and hind limb muscles of ratites, 1880). The author observed ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) in ratites: rhea, cassowary, ostrich. Synonyms for this structure are used: ligamentum teres and lig. rotundum foraminis acetabuli, and its strength is noted. Translation into Russian is available at the link: 1880GadowHF.

Femur (Oberschenkel).

Femur (thigh). The very strong femur, with
its almost round head, lies in the glenoid cavity, where it is attached by a
strong ligamentum teres. The neck is short. The greater trochanter, is very
large and directed anteriorly; in the middle of its outer surface, where the
tendons of the proximal pelvic muscles insert, there is a rough spot. Its
posteriorly directed part, together with the adjacent part of the neck, lies
against the antitrochanter.
