The fragment from book Chaim ben Attar «Or HaChaim» was first printed at Venice in 1742. The treatise is a commentary on the Pentateuch (1922LeeserI), was written between about 1718-1742 in Sale (Morroco) - Livorno (Italy) [sefaria.org]. Translator into English is the outstanding rabbinic scholar Eliyahu Munk. The author mentions damage to the ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) of man, calling this formation “גיד הנשה” (gid ha-nashe).

על כן לא יאכלו בני ישראל את גיד הנשה. This is why the children of Israel do not eat the disjointed sinew, etc. This sinew was dislocated from its holy origin and became subject to dominance by the קליפה ["external forces" in the scheme of the emanations, Ed.]. G'd forbade anything which has thus become defiled wherever it appears. There is a mystical element in this. This sinew does not have a taste, an allusion to its originating in the "external forces."
