Fragment from the book Corti M. In Mundini Anatomen explicatio (1550). An early description of the anatomy and role of ligamentum capitis femoris (LCF) is presented, and a rare synonym is mentioned. The pathogenesis of lameness and soft tissue atrophy in LCF pathology is discussed. For more details, see the comment 1550CortiM [Rus].

De anatomia cruris & pedis.
Postea eleua musculos & chordas & vide ossa.
consequens totum corpus. In parte inferiori habet pixidem quondam: in cuius
Translation
[Eng]
On the anatomy of the leg and foot.
Then lift up the muscles and tendons and look at the
bones. And the first will be the femur, on which the vertebrae of the back are
built, and therefore the whole body. In the lower part [of the body] there is a
cavity, in the depression of which is the round end of the femur, which is
called a vertebra (vertebrum). And between them, in the front part, there is a
certain ligament, which can also be called a vertebra (vertebrum); when it
comes out [dislocates], a person begins to limp, because this leg is lengthened
and not fixed, and the whole body cannot be well supported, the leg begins to
atrophy, since the veins passing below are subject to compression and bending,
which leads to their partial blockage. This connection of the two bones is
called the sciatic (scia), and hence the pain in it is called sciatica
(sciaticus).
