The study analyzed the overall microstructure of eleven fresh human
ligamentum teres (LT) specimens. The authors suggest that the LT «... hould no longer be considered a
developmental vestige, as there is evidence to suggest that it has both
mechanical and biological functions within the hip joint. As such, any surgical
procedures should aim to minimize excessive damage to this structure as far as
possible, so as to minimize any potential loss of function.»
